Thomas Louis Sample

   Thomas L. Sample, 90, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Sunday afternoon, October 31, 2021, at the Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky.
   Born on November 6, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Curtis Calvin and Helen Eileen (Fitzmaurice) Sample.  He was a 1948 graduate of Edison High School in Mt. Vernon, NY. Tom later attended the R.C.A. Institute of Technology in  New York City, NY and then went on to Iona College, in New Rochelle, NY.  He was a veteran having served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
   For many years, he was a manager for Budget Finance ( later Associates Loan) in New York and later in Sandusky, OH, retiring in 1980.  In years past, he loved going sailing and had enjoyed being a life guard in his younger days. He had also enjoyed being a member of the Briarcrest Swimming Club and spending time with his family there.
   Tom was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church  where he had been involved with the finance committee and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 546.
   He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn (Manganiello) Sample whom he married on June 11, 1955; his children, Thomas "Tom" (Candace) Sample of Sandusky, JoEllen (Larry) Michel of Huron, Jeanne (Matthew) Melillo of Wichita, Kansas, Diane (Ted) Kluding of Norwalk, and Kathleen (Michael) Mulvin of Sandusky; his 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Curt (Susan) Sample of W. Palm Beach, FL; his sister, Judy (Richard) Ciampi of Yonkers, NY; and his nieces and nephews.
   Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Ann (Gregory) Turner (2019); a brother, John Sample; and his sister, Gerri Cascio.
   Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 7, 2021, from 3-5 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Prayers will be recited Monday morning, November 8, 2021, at 9:40 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Zachary Brown officiating.  Military Honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post #83 and VFW #2529 Color Guard.  At his request, following the service cremation will take place.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery Columbarium, Sandusky.
