Steven Anthony Giovagnoli, 57, of Schaumburg, IL., formerly of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, November 13, 2011.
Born on February 1, 1954, in Sandusky, Ohio, the son of Anthony and Anita Louise (Colussi) Giovagnoli.  He was a graduate of Sandusky High School and later went on to graduate from Kent State University where he received a degree in engineering.  After college, he worked for IRI (Industrial Risk Insurance) for 22 years.  He then worked for GE for 6 years, and most recently for Allianz from 2005 till the present as a Senior Loss Prevention Engineer.
Steve never missed a ski season, loved his family, could sing on key to every Crosby, Stills and Nash tune, and enjoyed fishing, photography, sports, and biking.  Every year for over three decades, as part of his lifelong involvement with the National Ski Patrol, his ultimate winter pastime was patrolling Hayward, Wisconsin's annual cross-country ski race, the American Birkebiner, modeled after an ancient Viking battle.  He also participated in several fund raising events through "Ride for a Cause" - bike riding in places like Ireland, Italy, Scotland, Spain, The Netherlands, and most recently in 2011, France.
Steve is survived by his sons, Graham and Gavin Giovagnoli; close friends, Julie Rucinski and Melissa Giovagnoli all of Chicago, IL.; his father, Anthony Giovagnoli of Sandusky; brother, Gary (Beth) Giovagnoli of South Carolina; sisters, Anne Marie Giovagnoli of Sandusky, OH, and Diane (Scott) Broeker of New Jersey; niece, Lexie; and three nephews, Dante, Dominic and Vincent all of South Carolina.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Anita Louise (Colussi) Giovagnoli.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm on December 23, 2011, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Steve's hometown of Sandusky.
Steve's family is requesting for memorial contributors to sponsor a rider or walker for "Ride For A Cause" 1107 W.
