Shirley Jane, “Red” (Hallock) Petrick passed on at her cottage-home on July 18, 2022.
She was born on the Isle of Saint George on August 18, 1929. At a young age, she along with her parents, Elizabeth Faye (Sandersen) and Clark Garfield Hallock and with her four brothers, Leslie, Weldon, Donald, and Marvin left North Bass and moved to Sandusky, OH.
She always enjoyed re-visiting North Bass and did so a number of times together with other relatives and her brothers. During her life in Sandusky she made many friends. In High School she formed a close network of 8 girlfriends “the club girls,” life long friends. Who would meet regularly to play pinochle and also for lunch, long into their senior years together. After graduating in 1947 from the old Sandusky High School, she started her career as a secretary for the H & S Bakery. She also worked at Philco, the Lake Shore Coach Company and she ended her work career at Providence Hospital working in admitting. Shirley met her husband, Paul Raymond Petrick at Pete's Drug Store, where she and her gang of friends would often hang out. They were married on January 15,1949.
Red and Paul built a home together and raised seven children. Jane Koch of Sandusky, Thomas (Deborah) Petrick of Willoughby, OH., Robert Petrick (deceased), Patricia (Walter) Deno of Avon, OH., Michael Petrick, Susan (Patrick) Joreski and Carol Petrick, (Randy Shock) all of Sandusky, OH.
Shirley and Paul always had a dream to build a house on Sandusky Bay. And that dream did come true with the house we all know as “ the cottage.” She was the best Mom, leaving each of us with cherished memories. She was Grandma Pete to 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Her husband, Paul, Bobby, her parents and brothers, Aunt Doll, her cousin Carol and dearest friend Sally, along with her pets, Tootsie and Dusty and many other dear family and friends were waiting to greet her in heaven. As Mom, Grandma Pete, always said: “It's a great life if you don't weaken.”
Family and friends may come for visiting from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM on Friday, July 22, 2022, at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 48870. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, July 22, at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH. Fr. Zach Brown officiating.
