Rosemary Fitzthum Obituary

Rosemary “Roe” Angela (Russo) Fitzthum , 86, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday evening, October 19, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.  Rosemary was born in Sandusky, Ohio on November 1, 1933.  She was a 1952 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. As a devout parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, she expressed her love for the Lord by attending daily Mass.  She was a Lector and a Sacristan, served as a member of the bereavement and prayer line committees, and distributed communion to the homebound as a Eucharistic Minister.  She also served the community as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and the Soup Kitchen.

Her father immigrated from Licata, Sicily, and she was very proud of her Italian heritage.  Rosemary truly lived life to the fullest.  She can be remembered for her entertaining stories, her infectious laugh, and her silly sense of humor.  She was quick-witted, thoughtful, stylish, and spirited.  She loved with all of her heart and cherished her family, never missing an opportunity to tell those she loved how proud she was of them.  Her generous smile would light up a room.  Her tender touch and unconditional love was a treasured gift, and she was known for sending thoughtful cards that displayed her beautiful penmanship.  “Rose Bowl” was the life of the party as she enjoyed socializing, playing cards with her friends, and dancing the night away. She was an avid fan of the Panthers and the Buckeyes (Go! Fight! Win!).  She was the rock of her family, actively supporting her children and grandchildren while being their number one fan.

Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her adoring and devoted husband of over 65 years, George, her loving children Mark (Elaine), Jodi, Jude (Terry), Kurt; grandchildren, Allison, Jessica (Andrew), Nicholas, Kimberly (Rob), Kaitlyn, Molly Rose (Craig) and Trevor; and great grandchildren, Meadow, Lillian, Sophia, Charlotte, Lucas, Victoria Rose, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat Sox. She is preceded in death by parents Leontine Mary (Ebner) Russo and Angelo Joseph Russo, sisters Rita and Jean Ann.  She touched the lives of many, and her legacy will forever remain in our hearts.  She will be dearly missed.

Services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020, beginning with the recital of the Rosary at 3 pm, followed by visitation from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Due to the COVID-19 health concerns, wearing of face masks (they will be offered) and social distancing will be mandatory.  If you are uneasy about attending, please feel free to leave a message to the family on the website.  Prayers will be recited Saturday morning, October 24, 2020, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Matt Frisbee officiating.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870.
