Rod J. Hurak, 72, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Sunday evening, March 7, 2021, surrounded by his family at his home.
Born on March 17, 1948, in Sandusky, OH the son of Joseph Andrew and Mary Margaret (Good) Hurak. Rod was a 1966 graduate of Perkins High School. He was a veteran, having served honorably in the U.S. Air Force and the Army National Guard for many years. Rod was the Assistant Harbor Master at the C.I.C. (Catawba Island Club) for 22 years, before retiring in 2019. Prior to that, he had also owned and operated The House of Donuts from 1980 until 1998. More recently, after retiring, Rod went on to work at Victory Honda. Throughout the years, Rod truly enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Sandusky Orioles Club.
Rod is survived by his wife, Kim (Comella) Hurak; two daughters, Lisa (Rich) DeVerna and Whitney (Matt) Corapi; three sons, Chad (Nicole) Hurak, Derrick (Deb) Keller and Ryan (Kelly) Keller; his six grandchildren, Ashleigh DeVerna, Zack DeVerna, Gabriella Keller, Henry Keller, Collin Corapi and Katrina Kirk; a great-granddaughter, Hazel DeVerna; a sister, Mary Carlstedt; his goddaughter, Ashton Ward; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Ward.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
It was his wish to be cremated. Private family services to be held at a later date.
