Robert Todd Obituary

Robert H. "Bob" Todd, 90, of Huron, passed away peacefully early Thursday afternoon, September 5, 2019, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
Born on September 18, 1928, in Bellevue, OH, a town he lived, breathed and loved his entire life.  The youngest of five children, Bob was the son of Alfred C. and Emma B. (Black) Todd.  From being a grocery runner, as a young boy, to working in the railyard with his father, he always had an excellent work ethic.  While juggling work and receiving exemplary marks in school, he also managed the Bellevue boys basketball team, including their 1945 State Championship season.  Bob was "An Absolute Redman."
After graduating from high school in 1946, Bob put his gifted mind to use and joined the United States Army and served his country as a special agent counter-intelligence officer.  After being honorably discharged, Bob worked sales for "Marv Byer'" Clothing Store and later went on to work security for the newly opened Sandusky Ford Plant.  In 1957 he joined Research Associates, a private investigating firm based out of Cleveland, OH, that was originally comprised of former federal and military intelligence agents.  Additionally Bob worked for the Big Ten Conference for over two decades, allowing him contacts and stories from across the country and cementing his love of all athletics.
Bob was a member of  the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post #83, the AMVETS Post #17, the I.A. B. Club, as well as, a former member and officer of the Blue Streaks Booster Club (he was a true die hard "Streak Backer").
He started his family with his marriage to Lois (Wagner) Foley, with whom he had his first two sons (Greg and Bruce) with.  In 1969, he met the love of his life, C. Marie (Beneditinni) Miller, whom he affectionately referred to as "Momma."  Together, they enjoyed life to the fullest, raising their children and traveling abroad.
Bob was father of eight; Greg (Lynn) Todd, Bruce (Robin) Todd, Scott (Cheryl) Miller, Gus (Michelle) Miller, Mark (Patricia) Miller, Debra (Joel) Lynn, Teresa "Terri" (Daniel) White, and Lisa Todd-Martin. And as a grandfather of 24, great-grandfather of 20 and a great-great-grandfather of one, he leaves behind a large family he cared for more than could be imagined.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; a son, Scott, a daughter-in-law, Robin Todd; a grandson, Ryan Todd; a great-granddaughter, Fiona Lynn Ulrich; and his siblings, Edward, Glendon, Donald and Gladine; and his buddy and companion, his dog, "Button."
Bob was a lover of life and never turned down an invitation, be it dinner, a school play or any such event where he could cheer a loved one on.  His fondness of all athletics lasted his entire life and he would have just as much fun, if not more so, cheering on one of his grandkids from a lawn chair than sitting in sunny California at the Rose Bowl cheering for the Big Ten.  As an admitted life long ice cream addict, Bob was always looking for an excuse to make a run to the local stand.  Everyone knew, win or lose, when Granpa Goofy came to town, ice cream was always on the agenda.  He was the pillar of strength for his family and was always there to offer fatherly advice, a shoulder to cry on, or just be there when you were having a bad day and needed to vent over a cup of coffee or a couple of beers.  While not deeply religious, Bob believed in forgiveness, allowing for you to make your own mistakes, yet always being there when you needed to be picked back up.  Generous to a fault, his home and his heart was always open to those in need and in doing so, he showed everyone around him that it is love, not blood, that makes a group of people a family.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2019, from 4-7 pm at the David F. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Jeff Walker officiating.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Sandusky.  Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 83 Color Guard.
