Ralph E. Munger, Jr., 77, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2025, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a battling stage 3 lung cancer.
He was born on January 21, 1948, in Norwalk, OH the son of Ralph Edwin and Gladys Marie (Smith) Munger, Sr.. After graduating from high school he went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army and the Reserves. Over the years Ralph had served in the military for many years and had also worked as a welder.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending, over the years, the grandchildren many activities, especially watching them play football and volleyball. The family will remember him for how he loved watching circle track and drag racing, working in his garden and playing in the woods.
Ralph is survived by his brother, Sheldon (Wendy) Munger of Shelby; his stepdaughters, Amy (Ernie) Studebaker of Tawas, MI, and Lori (Jason) Polak of Vermilion; his stepsons, Rolland (Diana) Nath of Sandusky, Michael (Katrina) Wilson of Sandusky; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a great great-granddaughter; and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, of 40 years, Verla Marlene "Cricket" (Winland) Munger (2021); a son, Jeremy Munger; his five brothers, Jerry, William, Melford "Skip", Richard, and Mark Munger, Sr.; a sister, Sharon Munger; and a stepdaughter, Kathy Callipare.
His family invites friends, family, loved ones and others to a special event gathering, a "Celebration of Ralph's Life" to be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 3 - 7 pm at the V.F.W. Post # 2529, 604 W. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH. Military honors will be for Ralph on Thursday afternoon, May 15, 2025, at 2:15 pm at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 230 W. Monroe Street, Suite 200, Chicago, IL 60606.
