Phillip M. "Phil" David, 75, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully early Thursday afternoon, November 21, 2024, after an eight month illness. He was surrounded by his children, their spouses and close family friends at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.
Born on August 13, 1949, in Sandusky, Phil was the son of Harold August and Phyllis Lucille (Lamb) David. He was a 1968 graduate of Perkins High School where he served as president of his senior class. Phil then went on to study in the field of agriculture at Michigan State University.
Phil was known as a jack of all trades and worked for several local businesses but had a passion and a true love for farming. In his earlier days, he farmed ground for several local families and then fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to east Texas where he operated a 1,200 acre cattle ranch from 1983-1989. Phil then returned to Ohio to be able to be with his ailing father in his last days. Once coming back, he began his service to Oxford Township, as the zoning inspector, and was soon appointed as the township clerk. Phil was then elected Oxford Township Fiscal Officer and held office for 20 years, before retiring in early 2024. Most of all, Phil will be remembered by his children for his passion of all things living; his great care and nurture for his many furry and feathered friends as well as having a true green thumb.
Phil was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Milan and the Ohio Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his blended family of children; Joey Michele Butcher of Monroeville and Nikki (Jake Otto) Berardi of Berlin Heights, Jeff (Jill) David of Monroeville and Justin (Gazelle) David of Monroeville , Scott (Kelly) Lunato of Freeport, FL, and Nicole Lunato of Sandusky, his grandchildren; Kassidy, Karli, and Nicolas Butcher, Lexi, Libbi, Max and Jackson Berardi, Zachary, Ethan, and Sydnie David, Gabi, Izzy, and Clay David, Dominique (Josh) Bryan,
Nicolas (Alyssa), Ethan , Joshua, and Samantha Lunato, Madison (Tyler) Hemmer ; and great-granddaughters, Lena and Brynlee. Phil also leaves his longtime best girl, Sukie, his labradoodle.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 37 years, Jayne H. (Bragg) David (2020); his son-in-law, Jeffrey K. Butcher; and his two brothers, Harold A. David II and Daniel J. David.
The Family would like to extend special thanks to Phil’s companion, Jill Weilnau and lifelong friends Steve and Sandy Deering for their care and constant support.
It was his wish to be cremated. The family will receive friends on Friday morning, November 29, 2024, from 10:30 am until time of the memorial service at 12 pm at St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 W. Mason Road, Milan, OH. Rev. Wendy Schnidler-Chasney officiating. Please join the family for a "Celebration of Phil's Life" following the service at The Mason Jar, 4408 W. Mason Road, Sandusky, from 1-4 pm. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Back To The Wild, P.O. Box 423, Castalia, OH 44824 or to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior Street, Sandusky, OH 44870.
