Paul L. "Sarge" Hennessy, 100, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Saturday morning, February 17, 2024, at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.
Born on September 10, 1923, in Bellefontaine, OH the son of John Francis and Edna R. (Martin) Hennessy. Paul was a veteran, having reached the rank of Staff Sergeant while he served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during W.W. II and the Korean Conflict. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he was a Senior Clerk at the Sandusky Post Office for many years, retiring in September 1983.
Paul will be remembered by his family for how he would enjoy to take a daily five mile walk, rain or shine, early in the morning, in the dark, on the streets of Sandusky. He also had volunteered for many years at the Senior Center where he would help deliver to those receiving "Meals on Wheels."
Paul was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post # 83 (life member), and the V.F.W. Post # 2529.
He is survived by his 3 great-nephews; Jack (Becky) Smith, Jr., Jeff (Elayne) Smith and Jerry (Valerie) Smith; and several great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews; his nephew, Jack Smith, Sr.; and niece, Rita Ambriati; his special friends, Greg (Margie) Mees, Fred Tripp, Randy Geiger, Paul Birktoft, and other friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Martha LaLonde; a brother, Jay Hennessy; his niece, June Ann Smith; and a great-nephew, Jay Smith.
It was his wish to be cremated. His family will receive friends on Monday morning, February 26, 2024 from 9:15 am until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Prashanth Kumar officiating. He also wished to have his cremains buried with his parents at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sandusky. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 83 and the V.F.W. Post # 2529.
His family requested that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to "Meals on Wheels," or to the Erie County Senior Center, 620 E. Water Street, Sandusky, OH 44870.
Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
