Patricia Ann (Canning) Grondin

   Patricia Ann (Canning) Grondin, 99, of Sandusky, Ohio entered into Eternal Life peacefully at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania early Sunday morning, October 31, 2021.
   She was born on March 12, 1922, in Sandusky, OH the daughter of Francis John and Gertrude Georgia (Rogers) Canning.  She was a 3rd generation member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sandusky, Ohio.  She was a proud member of the 1940 graduating class of Sandusky High School.
   Patty worked for the phone company after graduating.  Over her life, she also worked for General Electric in Plymouth, FL, Rice's Nursery in Zellwood, FL and as a Master Piemaker for the Sandusky Schools.
   On a summertime visit to her cousins in Lorain, OH, she met Nicholas Albert Grondin at the Lake Erie beach.  They were married on June 5, 1943.  Pat and Nick enjoyed 51 years of marriage, until Nick's passing on June 13, 1994.  Together they raised 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls.
   Pat was an incredibly prolific artist, painting beautiful acrylics, greeting cards and envelopes, making jewelry of many kinds, but most of all as an incomparable seamstress.  She made clothes and other items of all types for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  The hundreds (thousands) of items she designed and sewed will be cherished keepsakes for all time by her family.
   But perhaps most of all she was a Mother.  She somehow made all of her children feel special, loved and held close to her heart.  That is her legacy, being a wonderful example of living a devoted life.
   Pat is survived by her children, Sister Valerie Grondin OSF, Michael (Becky), Mary (Mike) File, Virginia (Tom) Falk, James (Christine), Peter (Debbie), Jane, Patrick (Janet), Jude (Kathy), Theodore (Susan) and Jean; and her 72 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also cousins, nieces and nephews. 
   Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nick; her daughter, Catherine; her parents, Francis "Papa" and Gertrude "Nana" Canning; a sister, Jean; and her two brothers, Francis "Bud" and Jack. 
   It was her wish to be cremated.  The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday morning, November 10, 2021, from 9 am until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Monte Hoyles officiating.  Inurnment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery Columbarium, Sandusky.
   The family suggests that memorial contributions may be given to the Bethany House, a home for victims of domestic violence, at  Bethany House, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania, OH 43560 or to Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870.
   Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
