Mary Jane Faber Obituary

Mary Jane Faber (nee Naley) passed away November 24th at Stein Hospice in Sandusky due to complications from a fall. She had resided at Otterbein Senior Living in Marblehead since October 2019.

Mary Jane was born January 10, 1935, in Wilkinsburg, PA (a suburb of Pittsburg) to Charles and Daisy (Musick) Naley.

She attended school in the Pittsburg area and was selected for a special art class at Carnegie Melon Art Institute in grade school because of her art talents and abilities. The summer before her senior year in high school, her father was transferred to the Rockwell Manufacturing Plant in Norwalk, OH where she graduated from Norwalk High School. While having to go to a new high school during senior year in a new state would surely be undaunting and challenging for most teenagers, she took it in stride. She made lots of new friends and loved going to a smaller school. After high school she attended Ohio University.

She worked as the secretary to the Executive Director of the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce. She met her husband Lyle of Sandusky in January 1954. After a whirlwind courtship they were married July 9, 1954. Lyle proceeded her in death July 7, 2020, two days before their 66th wedding anniversary.

To know Jane was to love her. Her laugh and eye twinkling smile lit up a room. Not only was she beautiful outside, but she was a kind and caring person who was beautiful inside as well. She was always grateful and thankful for anything anyone did for her. She made everyone feel special.

In addition to raising three daughters, she was active in the Sandusky community including Women’s Civic Club where she chaired the annual Antique Show, Sandusky Garden Club and Providence Hospital Women’s Board. While on the Women’s Board, she helped with efforts to redecorate the children’s section of the hospital and volunteered at the Hospital gift shop. She did such a good job as a volunteer at the gift shop, she was asked to manage the gift shop at Providence Hospital (now Firelands South Campus Gift Shop). She totally turned the gift shop around adding many new items and increasing the profits that went back to the hospital. In later years she was a bridal consultant for Bridget’s Bridal store in Sandusky, a job she truly enjoyed.

Her interests included gardening (she had a beautiful garden on Scottley Drive where she lived for 60 years), interior decorating (always helping neighbors, friends, and family as well as countless community decorating projects), art projects, reading and travel—she got to travel to France, Germany, a Mediterranean Cruise, Hawaii, Arizona and many more places in the United States as well as a Mission trip to Mexico for Caring Hearts.

In addition to her husband Lyle, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Lyle Jr, her oldest sister Lorraine Wood, and her youngest brother Richard H. Naley, who was killed in Vietnam.

She is survived by daughters Deb Faber Cailor (Bob) Marblehead, OH, Carole Thouvenot (Ken) O’Fallon, IL, Trish Simpson (John) Ft. Mill SC, six grandchildren Elizabeth (Christopher) Jacobs; Jeffrey Faber (Ashley) Elchert; Daniel (Ashley) Elchert; Daniel (Mia) Thouvenot; Andrew (Kristi) Thouvenot; and Joseph (Amanda) Thouvenot; and 13 great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by a sister Daisy McKamish (Harold) of Pittsburgh, brother, Charles Naley (Linda) of Morganton, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

At her wish she was cremated. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, 2020 Sanford Street, Sandusky on Saturday, December 11 at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at the Sandusky Yacht Club.
