Mary Cecelia (Fetters) Claes

   Mary C. (Fetters) Claes, of Sandusky, OH passed away at the age of 86 this past Saturday, May 16, 2020.  She passed peacefully surrounded by her family in the Stein Hospice Care Center, In Sandusky, after a brief illness.
   Mary was born on August 27, 1933, in Crestline, OH  She was the daughter of Vincent Leo and Mary Elizabeth (Hollenbaugh) Fetters.  Mary was a 1951 graduate of Crestline High School.
   Mary was an active member in her community.  She worked at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky as a Purchasing Assistant for nearly 20 years.  She retired from this position in May of 1999.  Mary taught fitness classes for nearly 60 years.  This included aquatic classes through the YMCA and Red Cross.  She also worked as a Paraprofessional with the Perkins School system.  Mary was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sandusky throughout her adult life.  Over the years, Mary rode motorcycles and was a part of the Chapel Cloggers.  As a hobby, Mary enjoyed re-purposing furniture.
   Mary is survived by her four sons, Mark of Castalia, Timothy (Mary Lou) of Huron, Robert (Tammy) of Stevensville, MI, and Andrew (Irene) Claes of Huron; her five grandchildren; her 2 step-grandsons; her three great grandchildren; and her former husband, Ronald Claes.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; and her two sisters, Ann and Helen Fetters.
   Mary was a vibrant and strong woman.  She loved her family and friends very much.  Throughout her life, she grew in her Christian faith and encouraged others to do the same.  Her family is comforted knowing that Mary is now with her Lord and Savior.
   It was Mary's wish to be cremated.  The family will hold a memorial service, June 6, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky.  The visitation will be at 10 am and the service will be at 11 am.
   The family suggests memorial contributions be made in her memory to Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior Street, Sandusky, OH 44870.
   Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
