Marlene Ann (Bremer) Roberts, 89, of Sandusky, passed away Tuesday morning, November 21, 2023, at The Meadows at Osborn Park, in Huron, Ohio, after a lengthy illness.
Born on December 16, 1933, to William Ludwig and Ethel Margaret (Mehling) Bremer, Marlene was a lifelong resident of Sandusky. She was a 1951 graduate of Sandusky High School at which she excelled as a member of the Sandusky A Capella Choir. She met the love of her life, James L. Roberts, while in the church choir and they were married in 1953. She later worked for many years alongside her husband at the family business of A.W. Roberts & Son and Roberts Specialty Shoppe before retiring.
Marlene was known for her love of music and throughout her life was involved in the local music community. She was an avid pianist, served as a past member of the Firelands Chorus and the Sandusky Choral Society, and performed vocal solos/duets at area churches. She was a longtime member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ where she was an active member of the choir; served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher; and was a past member of the Even Stephens group.
Marlene's life was a testament to her strong family values and love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her loved ones knew her best for her enjoyment of cooking for family gatherings; baking delicious pies and Christmas cookies; designing and sewing tailored outfits; and knitting/crocheting beautiful garments. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters Tamara “Tami” Roberts of Chicago, IL, Tonya (Keith) Warren and Tina (Jody) Showalter of Sandusky; her seven grandchildren, Marcia (Tim) Hahn of Vienna, WV, Mark (Vera Melnichenko) Roberts of Marietta, GA; Matthew Roberts of Bradenton, FL; M. Scott (Lauren) Roberts of Brentwood, TN, Joshua Warren of Bowling Green, OH; Katelyn and Noelle Showalter of Sandusky; her three great-grandsons Daniel, Jack and Nicholas Roberts; her brother Richard “John” (Pat) Bremer of Walbridge, OH; a nephew, Gary (Missy) Bremer of Walbridge OH; a niece Darlene (Tom) Fey of Easley, SC; and a special friend, Sally Burger of Sandusky.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, James L. Roberts (2007), her two sons Thomas J. Roberts (2022) and Timothy J. Roberts (2013); and two nephews Greg Bremer and Dan Geiger.
