Louis Barton Obituary

 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Louis James "Lou" Barton, 85, of Huron, who passed peacefully early Saturday evening, May 11, 2024 surrounded by his family in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

    Lou was born on December 17, 1938, in Cleveland, OH the son of Lewis and Ann (Matzek) Barton.  He was a 1957 graduate of John Adams High School in Cleveland, OH.  Lou worked as a pipefitter for Pipefitters Local #120 which he’s been a member of for over 61 years.

    Lou started boating at a young age and continued enjoying the water his entire life.  He had a home in Cape Coral, FL that he loved so he could continue enjoying the water year round. 

     Lou was a Past Commander of the G.C.B.A., Past Commodore of the Island West Yacht Club, a member of the Lake County Yacht Club, the Westlake Yacht Club, the South Shore Cruising Club, and the United States Power Squadrons.

    Over the years he also enjoyed skiing, golfing, collecting movies and traveling with his late wife, Susan, and spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren.  He was a member of the Fagowees Ski Club with whom he skied at resorts across the states and Europe.  He will be remembered by his children for the patience he had teaching them all to ski.  

    He is survived by two daughters, Gina (Chris) Adams of Parma, OH and Janine (Ted) Bertsch of Sandusky; two sons, Ross (Beth) Barry of Stow, OH and Bart (Shannon) Barry of Catawba Island, OH; nine grandchildren, Chris, Corey, Rachel, Brittany, Jessica, Stephanie, Zach, Ben and Sam; 13 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Evelynn, Sydney, Elly, Peyton, Avery, Liam, Gwen, Josie, Ava, George, Tinley, and Lincoln; 1 great-great grandchild Tyran, the mother of his daughters, Julie (Timko) Barton of Sandusky; his brother-in-law, James (Amy) Murley of Miami, FL; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

    Lou was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Susan E. (Murley) Barton on July 25, 2015; and his sister, Nancy Ann Vernyi.

    Visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  A funeral service will be held for Lou Tuesday morning, May 21, 2024, at 11 am at the funeral home.  Rev. Wally Gilbert officiating.  It was his wish to be cremated following the service.  A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Evergreen Hills Cemetery, in Chagrin Falls, OH.

    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his name to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
