Lee Baumler Obituary


 L. A. "Lee" Baumler, 93, of Sandusky, formerly of Kelleys Island, passed away late Tuesday afternoon, August 25, 2020, at the Providence Care Center, Sandusky.
   Born on March 9, 1927, in Sandusky, OH the son of Albert and Amelia (Dwelle) Baumler.  He was a 1945 graduate of Sandusky High School and later graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1951. 
   Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served honorably during the Korean Conflict in the Philippines.  He had worked at Clevite, Inc. for 30 years, before retiring in 1988.
   In his earlier days, he enjoyed boating, fishing and playing golf.  He had also played baseball for the Soldiers and Sailors Home and at one time had managed the team.  Over the years, Lee had served on the MRDD Board and had been a member of the Perkins School Board for 10 years, having served as vice-president.  Lee, with his wife, Dorothy, had spent many winters in Zolfo Springs, FL.  He had also been a member of the Masonic Perseverance Lodge # 329. Lee had also wrote a book, titled, "Visions of the Past," which was about growing up on Kelleys Island as a young boy in the depression era.
   He is survived by a daughter, Lisa (Paul) Nabel of Trotwood, OH; four grandchildren, Brooke (Spencer) Jordan, Heather (Andrew) Lifland), Paul (Brittney) Nabel and Ryan Nabel; five great-grandsons, Javin, Carson,Caleb, Alex and Ethan; and a great-granddaughter, Gwen; and a son-in-law, Ken Obringer of Coldwater, OH.
   Lee was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Dorothy M. (Slocum) Baumler on May 17, 2013; a daughter, Christine L. Obringer (October 2, 2018); and a sister, Betty Manuella.
   It was his wish to be cremated.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 24, 2020, from 11 am until time of the memorial service at 1 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Due to the COVID-19 health concerns, wearing of masks (they will be offered) and social distancing will be mandatory.  If you are uneasy about attending, please feel free to leave a message to the family on the website.  Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
   The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Kelleys Island Historical Society, 224 Division Street, Kelleys Island, OH 43438 or to the Sandusky Public Library, 114 W. Adams Street, Sandusky, OH 44870.
