Lawrence Howard “Larry” Hummel, 85, of Sandusky, passed away Monday, June 29, 2026.

Born January 18, 1941 in Sandusky where he lived at or near the intersection of the Seven Mile House for most of his life. He was the son of Jesse and Elsie (Riedy) Hummel. Larry grew up on a farm and was a farmer all his life. He loved being on the farm as his place to always be.

He was a 1959 graduate of Sandusky High School and Bailey Technical School in 1963 and Caterpillar Training Schools. Larry worked a career spanning over 40 years as a heavy equipment mechanic, and other positions with Ohio CAT companies including Barry Equipment Company and Holt Company of Ohio. Upon Larry’s retirement, he took on his second career volunteering as a Meals on Wheels driver and a shuttle driver for Cedar Point both for over 16 years. Larry loved these experiences and appreciated his visits and interactions among the many he met throughout the years through these two activities.  

Larry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elks Lodge No. 285 of Sandusky, Ohio Farm Bureau and the Firelands Timeless Ts Model T Ford Club. He was a longtime supporter of St. Jude’s Hospital and the Erie County Fairgrounds and enjoyed attending Firelands Symphony events in his later years.

He is survived by his two daughters, Lori (Tom) Kaliszewski of Michigan, and Lynn (Matthew) Garrity of Massachusetts, four grandchildren, who he enjoyed spending time with, Thomas, Lauren, Megan and Meredith, a brother, Charles, and a nephew and two nieces.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; Jesse and Elsie (Reidy) Hummel.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH.  Prayers will be recited Thursday morning, July 9, 2026, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, OH.  Fr. Monte Hoyles officiating.  Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Sandusky, OH.
