Larry Findley Obituary

Larry Keith Findley, 80, of Port Clinton, a gifted musician and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, June 30th, 2022 with his family by his side following a brief illness. Born on January 12th, 1942 at Fremont Memorial Hospital, he was the only child of Dorwin H. and Margaret Imogene (Wingard) Findley. He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life Kathleen (Romanko) Findley. He is survived by his three daughters: Kellie (Frank) Fowler, Laura (Christopher) Kanieksi and Natalie (Joseph) Anthony. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Seth O’Neal, Ava Kanieki, and Abigail, Daniel & Olivia Anthony.

Larry graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1960. He attended the Navy School of Music and served as a saxophonist in the U.S. Army Band from 1960-1963. After his tour ended, Larry returned to the region and was a pioneer in the thermoplastics industry. In 1985 Larry founded Thermocolor Corporation in Sandusky and went on to form E-Z Color Corporation in Fremont in 1997.  He had extensive knowledge of color and his patented technology was sought after. Larry’s contemporaries nicknamed him the “Mix-Master,” and he worked in the industry as a consultant well into his retirement years.

Even though Larry lived by the motto “Don’t quit your day job,” it was his night and weekend work that truly defined his life.  Larry and his late wife Kathy Ramone performed music throughout Northwest Ohio in venues including the Brown Derby and Sawmill Creek Resort. They were co-owners of Ramone’s Convention Center, Steuk’s Country Market & Winery, and Ramone’s Supper Club in Sandusky.  Larry was a featured soloist with Firelands Symphony Orchestra and performed on countless stages with various musical groups over the years. He was always eager to share his talents and support emerging artists.  Later in life, he helped train members of the Terra State Jazz Ambassadors and performed with them locally and in Washington D.C..  He also formed a duet with his good artist/musician friend Rosemary Schramm and together they performed concerts throughout the region.

Larry was a life-long active Republican, a member of the Sandusky Rotary Club, The American Legion, and Senior Member of The Society of Plastics Engineers. Larry loved music, traveling, boating, dogs and admiring wildlife. He was a supportive family patriarch and loved by everyone who knew him.
