Kevin Scott Ward

Kevin S. Ward, 65, of Marathon, FL (formerly of Sandusky), passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at his home in Marathon. 

He was born March 27, 1956, in Cleveland, OH, to Dr. Raymond G. and Lois (Baker) Ward. He attended Sandusky City Schools. From 1974 to 1977, he served honorably in the U.S. Marines. After being discharged from the service, he attended Terra Tech where he trained for a career in Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing. Later, he continued his studies in Cleveland, OH, where he got his boiler licenses. 

For years, he worked for a large hotel in Cleveland before moving back to the area and working for the Heinz Company in Fremont. In the early 2000s, he moved to Marathon, FL, where he worked in his chosen profession. His last job was for the Key West Housing Authority which was a Marathon Project. 

He was a lifelong lover of animals, raising a variety as a child and having many beloved pets through the years. His favorite was a Jack Russell mix named Pepe, who was his constant companion for many years and lived with Kevin on a sailboat. Kevin would buy steaks for Pepe and loved the local seafood in Marathon. After he retired he spent his time  reading and riding his bike for exercise. He enjoyed spending time with lots of friends and spent almost every day with his cousin, Dave, who lived in the same town. 

He was a devoted and fun uncle, who took his nieces and nephews swimming in Lake Erie, to Cedar Point, on many walks, cracked jokes, and told stories.

Kevin is survived by his siblings: Craig (Leann) Ward of Sandusky; Joyce (John) Corbin of Custar, OH; and Jonathan Ward of Pompano Beach, FL. Four nieces and nephews: Craig Ward, Jr.;  Lisa (Eric) Lombardy; Dominic Corbin; and Stephanie (Josh) Mills; three great nephews: Jonathan Gorby, Hunter Corbin, and Thomas Mills; many cousins; and close friends.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Raymond G. Ward, on January 19, 2018, and by his mother on August 30, 1966. The family had graveside services on August 20, 2021, and he was buried with his mother and father at Oakland Cemetery in Sandusky.
