Kathryn Lillian (Gomer) Giardina

Kathryn L. Giardina passed away on the morning of August 17, 2020 at Kingston of Vermilion. She was 90 years old. Kathryn was preceded in death by her mother Dora and father Emanuel Lake Gomer, her sisters Caroline and Helen, her brothers Emanuel Jr. and Robert, and her husband Santo Dominic Giardina. She is survived by her sons John (m. Christine) Giardina of Sandusky and Joseph (m. Maura) Giardina of Huron, her grandchildren Dominic (m. Trisha), Mary, Anne-Marie (m. Robert Rhodes), Rosemary, Maureen, and Monika, and her great-grandchildren Layla and Vincent, her brother-in-law Joseph, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was born in Wausseon, Ohio on December 10, 1929 and moved to Sandusky, Ohio in 1948. Kathryn and Santo were married in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Sandusky on November 4, 1951. They built their home in 1960 where both their sons were raised. Their 66 year marriage endured until Santo passed on February 10, 2017. For nearly 20 years, they spent their winters vacationing in Las Vegas, NV but spent most of their days surrounded by their family here in town. For fun, Santo and Kathryn spent Saturday evenings dancing at local social halls.
A force of nature, Kathryn was an active member of the community, being involved at Sts. Peter and Paul Church and maintaining friendships through the Sandusky Senior Center. She enjoyed working in her garden, playing bridge and mah jong at the Sandusky Yacht Club, and going to the Sandusky Library. Journaling and reading were part of her daily routine. She always made sure to attend church every Sunday and even attended as she could throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. 
Kathryn took great pride in her work. She was a former employee of Philco. However, for the majority of her career she adored the children and families that she cared for in the Sandusky area. They affectionately knew her as “Mrs. G.” 
Family will host a gathering on Friday evening from 5 - 7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.    Due to the COVID-19 health concerns, wearing of face masks (they will be offered) and social distancing will be mandatory.  If you are uneasy about attending, please feel free to leave a message to the family on the website.  Prayers will be recited Saturday morning, August 22, 2020, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Zachary Brown officiating.  Flowers can be sent to the funeral home.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Sandusky
