Kathleen M. "Kitty" Blake, 77, of Castalia, OH, passed away unexpectedly late Saturday evening, March 22, 2025, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.
Born on September 26, 1947, in Norwalk, OH, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Harriet (Schwinn) Witter. Kitty was a 1965 graduate of Sandusky High School. Over the years, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved traveling with her family and especially cherished visiting the Greek Island of Santorini, the Isle of Capri, Paris, France, and the beaches of Normandy, France, where her father served on D-Day.
In years past, Kitty had been involved with the Sandusky Public Library, where she served as a librarian. She also served as a historical guide for the Sandusky Follett House Museum and as the Curator for the Castalia Area Historical Society. She was especially passionate about her work in promoting the Castalia Branch of the library for over 15 years. Kitty later went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 15 years before retiring in 2004.
Kitty was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she had been very involved for several years in the church choir. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Castalia Sorority.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James W. "Jim" Blake, whom she married on June 3, 1972; a son, Zachary (Mona) Blake of Catawba Island, OH; her daughter, Meghan (Andrew) Rohde of Bay Village; and her two grandchildren, Madeline and Elliott.
Kitty was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Witter, and her mother, Harriet "Petie" Mallicoat.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 4–7 p.m. at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. On Friday morning, March 28, 2025, a eulogy will be given by the family at 9:50 a.m. prior to a Mass of Christian Burial for Kitty at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, OH. Fr. Monte Hoyles officiating. Following the services, cremation will take place.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Margaretta Township Fire Department (Rescue Squad), 113 South Avenue, Castalia, OH 44824; to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870; or to Back To The Wild, P.O. Box 423, 4504 Bardshar Road, Castalia, OH 44824.
