Julian P. "Jim" Ruthsatz Obituary
Julian P. "Jim" Ruthsatz, 95, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 2, 2026, surrounded by his family in the Commons of Providence Memory Care Center, after a lengthy illness.
Born on September 11, 1930, in Bloomingville, OH the son of Paul E. and Clara A. (Chill) Ruthsatz. At a young age he attended Holy Angels Catholic School. For over 40 years, he and his partner Ken Ruthsatz, owned and operated J & D Auto Wrecking. He'll be remembered for being very generous to others and a very hard worker as a lifelong mechanic and specializing in autobody repair.
Over the years, he enjoyed spending time with his family, going golfing, fishing, and in his earlier days boating, but he will be especially remembered by his family for how he loved to play cards and how he taught his family how to play a variety of card games.
Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the National Auto Dealers Association and a former member of the Sandusky Yacht Club.
He is survived by his family, Barb (Ralph) Schmidt, James (Joanne) Ruthsatz, Judy Ruthsatz, Linda (David) Renwand, Debra (Dan) Myers, and Amy Rayo (Patrick Coiffard); 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Paul H. Ruthsatz; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years, Geraldine A. "Gerri" (Kaman) Ruthsatz on May 25, 2016; a son, Ronald P. "Rocket" Ruthsatz; his granddaughter, Katlyn M. Ruthsatz; his grandson, Matthew Myers; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ruthsatz.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited Wednesday morning, June 10, 2026, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Monte Hoyles officiating. Entombment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky.
