Joseph Bayer Obituary

Joseph Robert Bayer, 70, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness Sunday, January 15, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones.

Joseph was born March 6, 1952 in Sandusky, to the late Joseph Frederick and Coletta (Manner) Bayer. He was a 1970 graduate of Perkins High School and United Electronic Institute. After finishing at the Electronic Institute, Joe married the love of his life, Jean Elizabeth (Sartor). He was looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in September.

He was employed by General Motors for over 30 years before retiring. Joe was an active member of the UAW 913 and his AA community. Over the years, he enjoyed many hobbies including golf, hiking, triathlons, going for rides on his Harley, scuba diving, kayaking, gardening, several artistic endeavors, and spending winters in Vegas with his wife and daughter. He loved seeing everyone on his long bicycle rides around town. He cherished his role as an Uncle Joe and always looked forward to spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was an expert quality tester of all things sweet and loved sharing that with his great nieces and nephews and special neighbors.

He is survived by his wife and his daughters, Amanda of Las Vegas, Nevada and Brooke of Sandusky. He is also survived by his brothers Donald (Sarah) Bayer, Steven (Raylene) Bayer, Douglas (Vicki) Bayer all of Sandusky. He insisted he was better at golf than his brothers. He was a “Sartor Husband” to his sister in-laws, Kathleen (Sartor) Dick of Bellevue, Maryellen Sartor (MarE Francis) of Virginia, Peggy (Sartor) LeGay of Sandusky, and his brother in-law Earl (Linda) Sartor of South Carolina. He would also insist he is better at golf than Earl. Survivors also include his nieces and nephews, Renee Kimes, Nikole (Jason Buckner) Kimes, Stephanie Bayer, Melissa (Nathaniel) Smith, Jennifer (Eric) Lujano, Benjamin (Ashley) Schaeffer, Matthew Dick, Zachary LeGay, Joseph A. Bayer, Shawn (Claire) Bayer of Sandusky, Lindsay (Jarrett) Yingling, Roxanne (Justin) Shaw, Brianne (Josh) Wahl, Steven Brent, Erin Demonte, Laura (Jason) StJohn, Christpher Bayer, and Courtney LeGay.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Frederick Bayer and Coletta (Manner), his father in-law George Sartor and mother in-law Betty-Ann (Harris) Sartor, his sister in-law Barbara (Sartor) Brent, and Bernice, Alan, and Walter Rohl.
