John J. "Jack" Grathwol, 89, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Monday afternoon, December 14, 2020, surrounded by his family at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
Born on July 19, 1931, in Sandusky, OH the son of Irvin Joseph and Veronica Anne (Hamburger) Grathwol. Jack was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary's High School. He was a veteran, having served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. Jack had worked for the Sandusky Ford Motor Company for over 30 years as supervisor of the Controllers Office, before retiring in April 1989.
He will be remembered by his family for how he truly admired his wife and loved spending time with his family and the grandchildren. He also LOVED the LAKE, from boating and fishing on it throughout the years. He enjoyed all sports, from the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers, to The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
Jack was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion Post # 83.
He is survived by his family, Robin (Ginny) Grathwol of Sandusky, Amy (Scott) White of Saline, MI, Kevin (Dawn) Grathwol of Lewis Center, OH, and Jill (Dan) Gies of Huron; his 12 grandchildren, Cory (Nicole) Grathwol, Stacey (Andrew) Serhal, Kelly Grathwol, Carly Grathwol, Brittany (Luke) Holzhauer, John (Olivia) White, Andrew (Brooke Butler) White, Emily White, Tyler Grathwol, Megan Grathwol, Lisa Gies and Taylor Gies; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lorelei; his 2 brothers, Edward "Louie" and James "Jim" Grathwol of Sandusky; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (Eickermann) Grathwol on November 27, 2020; his daughter, Lisa Marie Grathwol; twin granddaughters, Patricia and Sara Gies; and his brother, Robert "Bob" Grathwol.
It was his wish to be cremated. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for both Jack and his wife, Mary Ann, on Monday morning, December 21, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
