John Manion Obituary

John P. Manion, 85, of Huron, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, November 23, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on April 8, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of the late James and Victoria (Kocotowicz) Manion.  John was a 1954 graduate of Scott Township High School, Pittsburgh.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served honorably with the 35th Field Artillery Group from 1955-1957.  After leaving the Army he worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for two years.
In 1959, John began his career working with Hearst Corporation's subsidiary, Periodical Publishers' Service Bureau, in Pittsburgh, as a door-to-door salesman.   He moved to Albany, New York in 1963, as Branch Manager, later becoming Regional Manager.  In 1978 he was named National Sales Manager, relocating to the company headquarters in Sandusky, Ohio.  In 1985 he was named President, and retired in 2002 as President and CEO.  For several years after his retirement he served as a consultant for PPSB's licensing division.
John was a devoted husband and loved spending time with his family.  His greatest joy was being "Pap" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved attending their sporting activities.  John was an avid skier and enjoyed playing golf.
His community involvement included member of the Board of National City Bank; member of the Board of North Coast EMS; member of the Board of Sandusky Library; member of the Board of Michael's House; volunteer for Big Brothers and Big Sisters; volunteer for Perkins High School Wrestling Program.
John was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; past member of Plum Brook Country Club, Sandusky Yacht Club and Wyndemere Country Club, Naples Florida.
He is survived by his son, James (Donna) Manion; daughters, Terri (Mike) Bleile, Kathleen (Teddy) Pirkel, and Marcy Manion; grandchildren, Mitchell, Scott (Abbey) and Rachel Manion; step grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelly) Lanham, Baillie, Caiden and Mackenzie Pirkel; great grandchildren, Ellie, Maxwell, Liam, Hugo and Freya Manion; step great grandchildren, Alex, Keegan and Kierstin Lanham; a brother, James (Debbie) Manion; nieces and nephews.
