Joel Wesley Stout, 61, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, November 13, 2020, at MetroHealth Medical Center, in Cleveland, OH. Born in Sandusky, Ohio to Wesley P. Stout and Vera L. (Doughty) Stout.
He was a 1977 graduate of Sandusky High School and remained in the area for the rest of his life. Hired over 26 years ago, he was a lead technician for Protegis Fire & Safety, Port Clinton, Ohio where he made many lasting friendships.
Joel enjoyed hunting and trapping during his youth, but fishing was his lifelong passion. A timely and special memory shared by his son, Wesley, was catching “Lake Erie turkey” on Thanksgiving Day. He was a proud citizen, passionate about his freedoms and of those around him, a firearms enthusiast, and loyal fan to Ohio’s sport teams.
Joel may have seemed unassuming, but those who knew him understood the long pauses were because he was thoughtfully considering his words. He made you feel truly listened to. Often a conversation with Joel would begin with him asking about every person in your life, always leaving himself until the end and only if directly asked (multiple times). If you had the chance to spend time with Joel, we hope you will carry on his compassionate spirit.
In the words of his cousin, best friend, and brother, Morgan, “May your line stay tight and your stringer full as you travel the waters in Heaven.”
Joel will forever be remembered by his children, Wesley (Windy) Stout, Sara (Greg Norgaard) Stout, Christy (Matt Linja) Whitcomb, and grandchildren, Emily, Frankie, Zack, Matthew, and Hitchens, and his sister, Polly (Kenneth Beatty, dec) Stout, and niece, Lauren (Kat) Ammon. He will also lovingly be remembered by his cousins Eddie, Morgan, Deb, and Tom, extended family, and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents; and companion of twenty-five years, Teri Lawson.
A Celebration of Joel’s life will be held at a later date when it is safe to gather. At this time your memories and words of comfort may be expressed to Joel’s family at http://www.davidfkoch.com.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to one's favorite charity.
Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
