September 15, 1948 ~ February 14, 2025 (age 76) 76 Years Old

James Metzo Obituary

James D. "Metz" Metzo, 76, of Sandusky, passed away early Friday morning, February 14, 2025, at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.

   Born on September 15, 1948, in Sandusky, OH the son of Jack and Ruth Caroline (Wieber) Metzo.  He was a 1966 graduate of St. Mary's High School and later graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.   Jim was a veteran having served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.   He was a teacher at Western Reserve High School for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2008. He coached basketball for many years at both Western Reserve and St. Mary’s Central Catholic, and those were some of his most fond memories. While coaching and playing Jim earned many accomplishments. 

   Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the A.M.V.E.T.S. Post # 17. 

   He is survived by two daughters, Sarah (Jude) Riedy of Huron and Becky (Joe) Watson of Medina; his four beloved grandchildren, Charleigh, Thomas, Jack and Annabelle; a sister, Judy Warrer of Tennessee; his brother, John (Caroline) Metzo of Vermilion; and his nieces and nephews.

   Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and his two sisters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Handley and Jerri Bickley.

   A private memorial service for Jim will be held at a later date.  Interment will be in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery, Sandusky, with military honors.

   Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio, 480 W. Dussel Drive, Suite 150, Maumee, OH 43537.
