James R. Harris, 79, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Friday afternoon, June 5, 2026, surrounded by his family at Promedica Toledo Hospital, OH.

   Born on October 26, 1946, in Sandusky, OH the son of James Leo and Merylen Louise (Herschler) Harris.  Jim had run the streets of Rye Beach while attending Huron Schools and later graduated from Sandusky High School in 1965. He was a veteran having served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  For many years he had worked for Riedy Roofing, as well as, owning and operating Harris Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration for over 40 years. 

   He was a life member of the A.M.V.E.T.S. Post # 17 and the American Legion Post # 83.

   Jim is survived by "His Lady," Deborah Blakely of Sandusky; his family, Tracy (Rick) Gadd of Huron, James (Tracy) Harris of Milan and Jessica (Jason) Michel of Sandusky; his seven grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Bailey, Katlyn, Braden, Evan and Sydney; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Reece and one on the way; and his sister, Karen (Tom) Grande of California.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Thea Harris; and a nephew, Phil Harris.

   Jim was happiest when he was smoking fish, running his still and a PBR in his hand. He was a hard worker who played even harder, which included many trips to Daytona Beach.

Above all, Jim loved his family. He was a proud father and grandfather whose influence will continue to be felt through those that knew him, along with his stories and the memories he created.

   At his request cremation will take place.  A private family service will be held. 

   The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.
