Hester Maines Obituary

Hester “Elouise” Maines, 70, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, July 9th in the Stein Hospice Care Center following an illness.

Elousie was born on June 22nd 1950 to Woodrow Cleveland Ramsey and Evelyn Glenrose (McPeek) Ramsey in Pennsboro, West Virginia. While still an infant, her father passed away; she was then lovingly raised by her mother, and four years later, her step-father (Howard Smith, Sr.)

She was a devoted homemaker and early childhood daycare provider. She was affectionately known as “Weezee” to over fifty children ranging from six-weeks to six-years of age.

Elouise had a loving, prayerful heart and often took time to converse with others about her love for Jesus Christ. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Her family is comforted in knowing that she is now at peace in her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior.

She loved to travel with her husband of forty-four years (John E. Maines). Their trips included the  beaches of Hawaii and the mountains of Tennessee, Maine and Alaska.

Elouise especially enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Among her family’s most cherished memories include the “tea parties” she hosted for her young family members. She had a gift for storytelling and making others laugh. Her beautiful smile, witty sense of humor, and infectious laughter will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She was a strong matriarch whose faith, strength, and kindness will forever leave an impact on the hearts of her many loved ones.

She is survived by her husband John, daughter Alicia Stefano of Sandusky, three grandchildren John Mark Stefano, Claire Stefano, and Ellyana Birmingham; four brothers Rodney (Deborah) Ramsey, Howard (Kim) Smith, Charles (Karen) Smith, Greg (Diane) Smith (all of Sandusky) and several nieces and nephews.

Elouise was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father.

At her request, no visitation will be held.  Funeral services will be held for Elouise on Tuesday morning, July 14, 2020, at 11 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky.  Rev. David L. Hixson officiating.  Due to the COVID-19 health concerns, wearing of masks (will be offered) and social spacing will be recommended.  If you're uneasy about attending, please feel free to leave a message to the family on the funeral home website. Private graveside services will be held following the service at Meadow Green Memorial Park, in Huron.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870.

Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
