Gary V. "Pappy" Baker, Sr., 77, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Monday evening, March 16, 2020, surrounded by his family at his home.
Born on July 10, 1942, in Ridley Park, PA the son of Russell Hickman and Hazel Mary (Vaughn) Baker. He was a 1961 graduate of the Scotland School for Veterans Children. Gary had served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He had worked for the J. H. Routh Packing Company for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1999.
What was most important to him was his family and spending time with them. He'll be remembered by his family for his love of sports, especially being a die hard fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies.
Gary is survived by his wife of 57 years, Loretta K. "Kathy" (Killinger) Baker, whom he married on August 3, 1962; his family, Brenda Jordan, Sheila Baker, Gary V. (Heidi) Baker, Jr., Christopher (Julie) Baker, Sr., and Tashia (Jullian) Milton, Sr.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell "Bud" (Dorothy) Baker; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin daughters, Diane Renee and Dana Marie Baker; his step-father, Michael Burns; his son-in-law, Lewis Jordan; and his sister, Maryann "Skip" Malone.
It was his wish to be cremated. A "Celebration of Gary's Life" will be held at a later date by the family.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
