Garrett "Gary" Hager Obituary

Garrett W. "Gary" Hager, 84, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, September 9, 2019, at the Providence Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
Born on October 18, 1934, in Monroe MI, the son of Cyrus and Wavel (Fitzpatrick) Hager.  Gary had attended Woodward High School in Toledo, OH.  He was a veteran having served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  For many years he had worked  at Sandusky Glass and, prior to that, he had worked at Keystone Glass, in Toledo, before retiring.  After retiring, he had worked for awhile at the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Security.  He loved spending time with his kids and the grandchildren, but he will be especially remembered by his family as a die hard  University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan and his love for knowing and teaching all types of history to others.  Gary enjoyed golfing and had been involved in different golf leagues (Retiree) over the years either at the Eagles Creek or Woussickett golf courses.  In his earlier days,  he had coached for several years Little League baseball in Huron and had also coached CYO basketball while in Toledo.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #83, a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 2529 and a former member of the Huron St. Peter Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Parish Council and had taught Sunday School for a few years, a former member of the Huron American Legion Post # 302 (past Adjunct) and the Huron Eagles Club.
Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary A. (Keller) Hager whom he married on March 17, 1967; his sons, Garrett "Butch" (Susan) Hager of Wrightsville, PA, Terry Hager of Sandusky, Tony (Kim) Hager of W. Salem,  James (Vicki) Hager of Norwalk and Patrick (Dale) Hager of Bellevue; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gene Hager
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019, from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  In honor of Gary, the family suggests that those attending visitation wear some form of University of Notre Dame sports wear. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Chris Jesudhason officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 83 Color Guard.
