Elizabeth Streng Obituary

Heaven welcomed a new Angel on March 17th, 2018 when Betty A. (Barber) Streng left this world to return to her maker.  Her stay on earth is to be truly celebrated.

Betty was born on April 2nd, 1922 to parents Guy & Martha Gail Barber in Nelsonville, Ohio, one of five children and graduated from Nelsonville High School.  After moving to Sandusky she met and married her husband Norman Streng and for most of their married life owned and operated Streng's Sinclair later to change to Streng's Arco.  Following her husbands passing in 1974 she continued to operate the family business until the time of sale some years later.

This was not the end to her working career.  At which time she continued on working briefly at Dick's Carry Out, IGA until they closed their doors, on to the Nickles Outlet Store until their closing, and finally to Pat Catans where she proudly worked until the age of 90.  Known to her family as the “Energizer Bunny”, Betty did not want to give up working but health issues forced this official retirement.  Not to end her working career , she continued to lovingly crochet over 100 baby blankets for various organizations.

Betty's life was her faith and her family, especially the Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren.  Their visits, phone calls, and cards kept her going.  She is survived by daughter Linda (Richard) Howell, Son-In-Law Eugene (Mary Anne) Lenhart  all of Sandusky, Grandchildren Martin(Ashley)-Alexandria, Va., Kevin-Burien, Wa., James -Sandusky, Beth-Columbus, Oh., Heidi-Mason, Oh., and Jason-Vancouver, Wa., along with Great-Grandchildren Samuel, Mason, Oh., Adler, Malina, and Hampton, Alesandria, Va., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, siblings-Peg, Dana, Martha, and Guy and two daughters Peggy Ann and Barbara Lee (Streng) Lenhart.

Betty touched so many lives and that was proved by over 2,500 cards that were so special to her saved over the years from family and friends.  Special thanks go out to friends and family who made her life so full right up to the end, the wonderful staff and caregivers at Providence Care Center, Linda Skillman & the Prayer Chain from St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was a member and Matriarch, Dr. Richard Keller, the ICU Staff of Firelands Hospital, and Joyce Leibacher for making Betty look so pretty with the “Sacred Hair Appointment” which she always looked forward to.

A Celebration of Betty's life will take place on Saturday, March 24th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2211 Mills St., Sandusky, Ohio with visitation from 12:00 noon until time of service at 2:00.  David F. Koch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Suggested memorials in leiu of flowers would be St. Paul Lutheran Church, or Providence Care Center (Resident activity fund), 2025 Hayes Ave., Sandusky, Ohio
