Dow Weaver Sr. Obituary

Dow J. Weaver, Sr., 89, of Sandusky, passed away late Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2020, with family at his side at his home.
Born on December 30, 1930, in Nelsonville, OH the son of James Noah and Hattie "Lucille" (Somers) Weaver.  After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy having served honorably from 1949 - 1954 during the Korean Conflict.  Dow served in the Atlantic-Pacific Theatre on board the aircraft carrier, F.D. Roosevelt, on the battleship, U.S.S. New Jersey and on the heavy crusier, U.S.S. Bremerton as a gunners mate.
He had worked at the Sandusky Foundry and Machine,  prior to going to New Departure-Hyatt Inc. (Division of General Motors) where he had worked for 25 years, retiring in 1993.  Dow had also drove bus for the Perkins Local Schools for 30 years, retiring in 2003.
Dow was a loving, giving, and caring person.  That evidence is the deep sorrow and pain that his family and friends feel from his passing.  He had a good life, especially with his wife of 51 years, three wonderful children, five granddaughters, who all made him proud.  Now he is reunited with his wife who was responsible for starting his spiritual journey.  Now they're on their "honeymoon" for all eternity with the Lord. He also loved playing games with his grandchildren, but he especially loved tending to his garden and taking care of his tomatoes which he took great pride in and shared with others.  Dow was considered a true outdoorsman, having enjoyed going deer hunting for many years.  His family will remember him for his love for his many dogs he had over the years and the long walks he would take them on around the neighborhood. .
Dow was a 50 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he had also served on the Board of Trustees, he also was a member of the Willard Conservation League, the U.A.W. Local #913 (served on the CAP Council), the American Legion Post #83 and he had volunteered for several years at Care and Share.
He is survived by two daughters, Marylu (Dr. James) Meagher of Atascadero, CA and Cindi (Ed) Toll of Sandusky;  five granddaughters, Tera Rabjohn, Kristin McMillan, Dr. Kelsey Meagher, Colleen Pyle and Mackenzie Toll; a sister, Imogene Poling of Somerset, OH; several nieces and nephews;  his canine buddy and companion "Jade"; and his loving friend and neighbor, Kim Riedy.
Dow was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judith E. (Newlun) Weaver (2008); his son, Dow J. "Joe" Weaver, Jr. (2017); three sisters, Eleanor Davis, Sandy Sloan and Margaret Weaver; and two brothers, Jerry and Jimmy Weaver.
Private graveside services will be held.  Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery, Sandusky.  Rev. David T. Clarke officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #83 Color Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Stein Hospice Service, Inc, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, to Cancer Services of Erie County, 505 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson Street, Sandusky, OH 44870.
