Douglas Lamb Obituary

Well, I passed away the other day, my name is Doug J. Lamb, I was 78 years old, of Sandusky.  I passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, April 16, 2026, with my family at my side in the Stein Hospice Care Center, in Sandusky, after a long courageous battle with leukemia.

I was born April 29, 1947 to Ernest Karl and Awanda Bell (Robinson) Lamb in the village of Monroeville, OH or as I like to say Mayberry, Ohio.  I attended the four room school, St. Joseph Catholic grade school, through the 7th grade.  Then due to unfortunate circumstances, we moved to Sandusky where I attended 8th grade at Holy Angels Catholic School.  Then I finished school at Sandusky High class of 1965.

During the time at high school I met a young lady named Kathryn Green who became my wife.  Kathryn and I were married for 28 years during that time we had 3 children, Dawn Marie, Nicole Susan and Douglas Joseph II.  Unfortunately in 1994 Kathryn passed away from lung cancer.

In 1996, I remarried to Gloria (Kopp) Capizzi, who saved me.  I gained 2 stepsons, Chris and Keith Capizzi.  From our 5 children we have 16 wonderful grandchildren, Torey, Christian, CJ, Zach, Jesse, Molly Kathryn, Grace Elaine, Vaughn, Cassie, Kara, Kyler, Michael, Emily, Matthew, Grace Rose, and Joe, also 7 great-grandchildren; Elijah, Zoey Rose, Irelynn, Owen, Luna, Ivar, and Adelynn.

I went to work at Ford Motor Company from 1966-1969, then at Bellevue Mfg. for 9 years where I completed an apprenticeship for Tool and Die.  I finished my last 2 years at Mfg. as the Tool and Die Room Foreman.  Then in 1978 I went to work at New Departure-Hyatt Inc. in Sandusky as a Tool and Die Maker for 30 years, retiring in 2006.

I am a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  With Father Frank Kehres, Sister Martha, Linda Padoli and Father Marty Nassr, Gloria and I were active in the music ministry (with Tom Leber), retreats, and Eucharistic distributor in church and to the homebound.

I was preceded in death by my parents, 1st wife Kathryn, Brother John "Captain Jack" Lamb, Fathers and Mothers in law, Donald, Margaret, Ellen Green, Donald and Mary Gloria Kopp. Sister in law, Lisa (Kopp) Johnson, a brother in law, Mike White, a niece at birth, Ida Mae Lamb.  And many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that I loved through my life.

I am survived by my wife of nearly 30 years, Gloria (Kopp Capizzi) Lamb, my sister, Veronica "Roni" Robie, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Karen Lamb, sister-in-law, Barbara Lamb, sister-in-law's Thelma (Kopp) White, Mary Lou (Kopp) McPeek, our children, Dawn (Chuck) Wright, Nicole (Jason) Reinhardt, Chris (Korrine) Capizzi, Keith (Sherry) Capizzi and Douglas II. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

" I won't say I had a hard life just some hard times."

My visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Prayers will be recited Monday morning, April 20, 2026, at 9:40 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Chris Turner officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made in my memory to the Victory Kitchen, 1613 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or if you are able to, please donate blood through the American Red Cross.
