Dorothy Marie (Zehringer) Matter

  Dorothy M. ""Dottie" Matter, 82, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Friday evening, June 18, 2021, in the Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky, after a long battle with Parkinson's.
   Born on February 20, 1939, in Sandusky, OH the daughter of Charles Riggs and Leona Mildred (Lonz) Zehringer.  She was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary's High School and went on  to graduate from the Mercy School of Nursing in Toledo, OH, as a Registered Nurse, in 1960.  For 40 years, she had worked as a RN at the Good Samaritan Hospital, later known as the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, retiring in 2001.   She loved spending time with the family and the grandchildren and, over the years, she enjoyed boating and visiting the islands and traveling with her friends (girl friends) and classmates over seas to destinations like Ireland, England, Italy, Greece and other countries, as well as, taking cruises with her husband, Rolly, to places like Hawaii and other locations. 
    Dottie was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Mary's Catholic Church and had also volunteered at Care and Share throughout the years.  
   She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roland L. "Rolly" Matter whom she married on September 1, 1962; her two daughters, Lisa (Steve) Snyder of Sandusky and Amy (Darin) Wiswell of Amherst; a son, Jeff Matter of Milan;  six grandchildren, Kari (Kevin) Valentine, and Jessica Snyder, Tyler (Crystal) Matter and Taylor (Travis) Brooks, , Alison  and Emily Wiswell;  and her eight great-grandchildren, Kade, Kestin, Kenna, Chase, Gabe, Luke, Max and Eli; and her sister, Marilyn L. Snedden of Sandusky.
   Dottie was preceded in death by her parents.
   Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, from 3-6 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Prayers will be recited Thursday morning, June 24, 2021, at 9:40 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Zack Brown officiating.   Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH.
