Donald Joseph Pole, 96, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 8, at Portland Place, Sandusky.
Don and his family were very grateful for the wonderful care he received and the friendships he made at Portland Place.
Don was born February 19, 1927, the son of John and Frances (Demma) Pole.
Don was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in WWII. He was proud to call Sandusky home and enjoyed watching the city’s progress. He worked for DisplayCo, formerly Hinde & Dauch for 44 years as a die maker, a job he loved until he retired. In his spare time, Don enjoyed woodworking and big band music, and he always had a positive outlook on life. His greatest legacy, though, is carried on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife of 73 years, Julia (Rofkar) Pole, his sister, Mary Jane Riedy, eight children, John (Jane) Pole, Tony Pole, Fran (David) Cullen, Debbie Barnum, Roseanne Pole, Carol (Gary) Hipp, Mike (Martha) Pole, Anne (Jack) Contieri, 19 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Joanne and an infant son.
It was his wish to be cremated. His family will receive friends on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 6 -8 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral & Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave, Sandusky. A funeral Mass will be held Friday morning, October 13, 2023 at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave, Sandusky. Fr. Monte Hoyles officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #83 and the VFW Post #2529.
