Debra Mazza-Wendt Obituary

Debra A. "Debby" Mazza-Wendt, 68, of Sandusky, OH passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, May 17, 2025,  at the Avon Oaks Caring Community, in Avon, OH,  after a lengthy illness.

Born on December 14, 1956, in Sandusky, OH, the daughter of Armando and Maria (Ceccoli) Mazza.  She was a 1975 graduate of Sandusky High School and later obtained her cosmetology license from the Northern Institute of Cosmetology, in Lorain, OH.  Debby lived most of her life in Sandusky and had worked at  New Departure-Hyatt Inc. (a Division of General Motors), in Sandusky, for 30 years, before retiring in 2006.

In days past, Debby enjoyed boating on Lake Erie and had taken many trips to Kelleys Island with her husband of 29 years, James. Over the years, she had treasured her visits to San Marino with her mother and the vacations she had taken with her family to the beaches of the Outer Banks.

She was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Italian-American Beneficial Club and the Union Local # 913.

Debby is survived by her sister, Ivana Casadei Rose of Avon; her brother, Gary (Rebecca) Mazza of Sandusky; her nieces and nephews, Bill (Ann) Rose, Jill (Joe) Rosa, Michael Rose, Mark Rose, Alicia (Doug) Dale and Christopher (Vanessa) Mazza; also survived by James's children, Bruce (Brenda) Wendt, Michael Ann (Tim) Cherry, Julia and Elizabeth Wendt, and Benjamin (Jim Bennet) Wendt; her nieces and nephews, Melissa (Ryan) Horn, Michael (Sam) Smith, Jessica (Greg) Perkins, and Adam (Gina) VanWingerden; and multiple great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,  James, on November 27, 2023; and her brother-in-law, Bill Rose.

Debby was a wonderful aunt, cousin and friend to all. She cherished her dear friends for all the love and support throughout her life and long illness.  Debby and her family would like to thank the devoted medical teams for their kindness, care and comfort throughout her illness.

It was her wish to be cremated.  There will be no visitation. A private family funeral service will be held.  Her cremains will be interred with her mother in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Sandusky, OH.

Because of her great love of animals, especially her rescue cat, Bianca, who she had for over 19 years, she requested memorial contributions be made in her memory to a local animal shelter or the nonprofit organization, GettingBackUp, 2720 Horseshoe Blvd., Westlake, OH 44145. Begun by Scott Fedor for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
