Daniel J. David, 80, of Monroeville, OH passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, May 27, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.
Born on June 29, 1943, in Sandusky, OH the son of Harold August and Phyllis Lucille (Lamb) David. He was a 1961 graduate of Perkins High School. Dan was a veteran having served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Over the years, he had worked at Sandusky Foundry and Machine for many years then at the Erie Coal Docks and the Northfolk Southern Railroad. Dan had owned an operated the Lake Wilmer Inn for 37 years before retiring.
He'll be remembered by his family for his love of the outdoors, how he loved hunting, fishing, golfing and working in his yard.
Dan was a member of the N.R.A., the American Legion Post # 83, The V.F.W. Post # 2529, A.M.V.E.T.S. Post # 17. the Huron Eagles Lake Erie Aerie # 2875, the Sandusky Athletic Club and other local clubs.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Daniel P. David of New York; a stepdaughter, Amber Melson of Monroeville; his four grandchildren, Jairus, Cameron and Lauren Tanna, and Kedrick Harrison-David; a stepgranddaughter, Kristen Rose Maag; five great -grandchildren, Gabriel, Elijah, Priya, Silias, and Zara Tanna; his brother, Phillip M. David of Monroeville; and his nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott David; his daughter, Annette F. Tanna; his companion of 28 years, Lori Berardi; a brother, Harold A. David II; and his sister-in-law, Jayne David.
It was his wish to be cremated. A " Celebration of Life" service will be held for Dan on Sunday afternoon, July 21, 2024, starting at 2 pm at the St. John's United Church of Christ Picnic/ Pavilion Shelter, 2712 W. Mason Road, Milan. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 83 and the V.F.W. Post # 2529 followed by a prayer by Rev. Wendy Schindler-Chasney. The service will continue down the road at The Mason Jar, 4408 Mason Road, Sandusky.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior Street, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to the Erie County Dog Pound, 2900 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870.
Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
