Carmel (Carm) Agnes Michel (nee: Temper) passed away at age 93 on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, surrounded by family. She was a loving wife of 70 years to Joseph P. Michel and a loving mother, grandma, and great grandma. Carmel was born in Huron to Mary and Cosmos Temper. She was the youngest of 11 children, in a big Italian family. Carmel grew up on the beach in Huron and passed her love of the Lake on to her children. She married Joe, in 1953, and they lived in Sandusky, where they raised their five children.
Carm graduated from Huron High School in 1947. She was a Registered Nurse, who worked at the former Providence Hospital as an assistant Head Nurse for many years, before retiring to raise her family. She later worked at the former New Departure Hyatt plant, as an industrial nurse when the children were grown. During her nursing career, she expressed a particular love and dedication for patients in their elder years. She participated in the early outreach and advocacy for hospice in the area.
She was a fan of scrabble, crossword puzzles, and game shows. In her younger days, she was an avid walker and attended water aerobic classes at the local YMCA. She and Joe volunteered at the local senior center. She played cards, especially Bridge, in multiple clubs. She loved to cook (especially Italian food) and was creative in the dishes she shared with her family.
Carmel was a devout Catholic and a dedicated member of Sandusky Saint Mary’s Parish. She lived her faith in her daily life. Likewise, she had many loyal and caring friends.
Carm selflessly raised her five children and brought great joy to the lives of her eight grandchildren. She did her best to partake in their numerous academic and athletic events. She was a great cheerleader for them, over the years.
The next generation of great grandchildren brought her joy, by playing at her feet with grandma’s special toys and sitting in her lap for stories and finger plays.
The family would like to thank Carmel’s many caregivers. They’ve worked faithfully in her home, around the clock, for the past 2 years. She was also showered with love and support by her immediate and extended families.
Carmel is survived by her husband Joseph and five children: Carol (Glen) Ginesi (Huron), Larry (Joellen) Michel (Huron), Cynthia Michel (Sandusky), Ron (Roberta) Michel (Milan), Jody (David) Pack (Perrysburg). As well as eight grandchildren: Nathan and Schaun Ginesi, Eric, Ryan, Daniel Michel, Lauren and Andrea Michel (Bertke) and Corina Pack. She also had many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sylvia (Mary) and Cosmos Temper and ten siblings: Ernest, Theodore (Ted), Peter, Lucy, Magdelene (Muffy), Adeline (Lena), Lillian, Mary (Yetta), Anne, and Teresa. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and a great-grandchild (Gianna Marie).
