Carl Frederick Nagel, Sr

Carl F. Nagel Sr’s spiritual soul returned to his Creator in the morning of January 14, 2022 at Firelands Regional Medical Center. 

Carl was born on July 10,1932 in Chillicothe Ohio, a son of Christie Nagel and Edna Pearl (Bolander) Nagel growing up in Portsmouth Ohio, and moving to Sandusky when he was 10. He attended Holy Angels Grade School and St. Mary’s High School. He graduated from General Motors Institute and worked at New Departure Hyatt after graduation. He then worked at Sandusky Foundry (now Metal-Tek), retiring after 37 years. He was a Professional Mechanical Engineer, something he was very proud of and kept his license current. 

You probably talked with him as he never met a stranger, as he rode his 3-wheel bike all over Sandusky. He loved to read, collect comics, do math problems and was willing to share all he read with others. He did love to talk and tell you he was happy. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church where he sung in the choir. 

He married Helen (Ryan) Nagel. They were married on October 12, 1957 at St. Mary’s Church. They had 3 children, Theresa C. (Cal) Stanley of Tucson Arizona, Carla (deceased), and Carl Jr of Sandusky Ohio. He had 8 grandchildren and 5 great-granddaughters. 

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Helen (2018), and daughter, Carla (2003).

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 from 4-6 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral & Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave, Sandusky.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday morning, January 20, at 10:00 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave, Sandusky.  Fr. Zach Brown officiating.  At his request, cremation will be held following the Mass.  He will be interred next to his wife at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorial contributions may be made in his name to Holy Angels Church 428 Tiffin Ave Sandusky OH 44870.
