Betty Lou (Hawkens) Yakopovich

Betty Lou (Hawkens) Yakopovich, 88, of Vickery, OH passed away late Thursday afternoon, December 11, 2025, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.

   Born on March 16, 1937, in Little Brownfield, PA the daughter of Russell and Betty (Beal) Hawkens.  She had worked at Meijer, in Sandusky, in the Bakery & Deli Dept., in the Fred's Cafe area, for several years, before retiring.

   Over the years, Betty loved playing bingo and going to the Casinos. 

   She was a member and past president of the A.M.V.E.T.S. Post # 17 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Post # 83 Ladies Auxiliary.

   Betty is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mike T. Yakopovich, whom she married on June 23, 1984; her two sons, Bill and Bob Tate; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two stepsons, Mike (Donna) and David Yakopovich; and her 4-legged "Buddies," Austin and Yaky.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Sue and Betty Tate; two sons, Paul and Russ Tate; a stepdaughter, Debra Davis; and her three brothers, Jim, Wilbert and Lester Hawkens.

   It was her wish to be cremated.  A "Celebration of Betty's Life" will be held at a later date at the A.M.V.E.T.S. Post # 17, in Sandusky.

   She will be interred at a later date in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, in Rittman, OH.

   The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
