Bernard R. (Bernie) Cross, 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Providence Care Center. He was born on October 18, 1934 in Sandusky, Ohio to James and Cecelia Cross. A 1953 graduate of Sandusky High School, Bernie served in the U.S. Navy and was employed by Westvaco Company until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and found great joy in spending time with his family. A passionate sports fan, he followed Cleveland’s professional teams and the Ohio State Buckeyes. There wasn’t a sporting event he didn’t enjoy.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Cross, and their children, Cindy (Rick) Bankieris, Steve (Angel) Cross, Matt (Lori ) Cross, and Andy (Denise) Cross. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Mandy (Brendan) Gardner, Christy (Clay) Johnson, Nick (Megan) Bankieris, Allison (Ryan) Borcherding, Hanna, Chloe, Abbie, Ellie, Jason (Nessa), and Aaron Cross. Additionally, he is survived by his great grandchildren, Nolan, Weston, Camille, Blaine, Noah, Hazel, and Lucy; his siblings: Naomi (Tom) Stork, David (Rosanna) Cross, and Dan (Janie) Cross; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harry and Roger Cross.
Bernie was a longtime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Sandusky.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
