Bernard H. Widman aged 91, passed away Thursday May 6th at the Stein Hospice Center in Sandusky. Bernie was born and raised in the Fremont Ohio area, and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1947. He served honorably in the US Army in Korea. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Sydelle Stetzel in 1953.
They moved their growing family to Sandusky in 1963 after he purchased the House of Donuts. The family run business would continue to make the best donuts ever for many years! He also made great pizza dough that he sold to area restaurants and pizza shops before retiring.
Bernie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish and the Knights of Columbus.
Bernie enjoyed gardening, refinishing antiques, caning chair seats, and staying busy with projects around their homes over the years. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Ronald, Edward (Carrie), Susan (Michael) Mikusa, Laura (Michael) Bauer, Lisa (Bradley) Hall, and Andrew (Andrea). Seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Two brothers, Tom and Wilfred Widman both of Fremont; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Sydelle; parents William and Clara (Binsack) Widman; Brothers Bill and Cyril; sister MaryAnn; daughter-in-law Diane; grandson Benjamin Widman.
The family would like to thank the staff of 1 north and 3 south at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky for their care, and Stein Hospice.
Private family visitation to be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday morning, May 12, 2021, at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870. Fr. Zach Brown officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Interment will be held later in the Calvary Cemetery Columbariun, Sandusky.
