Thomas Edward Schultz

Thomas E. "Tom" Schultz, 78, of Sandusky, who passed away unexpectedly late Tuesday evening, May 21, 2019, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.

Born on January 27, 1941, in Sandusky, OH the son of Edward Martin and Dorothea Caroline (Wilken) Schultz.  He was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary's High School.  Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served honorably for 8 years during the Vietnam War era serving aboard the CV-63 USS Kitty Hawk.  He had worked for many years at ICI Paints (Glidden), in Huron, before retiring.

In his younger days he enjoyed fishing, but later in life he loved spending time with the grandchildren and he especially looked forward to and enjoyed preparing meals for holiday family gatherings.  Years ago, Tom had been involved with the Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 31 and years later, when his sons were involved in Scouting, he was a Committee Member for Troop 8.

He was a life member of the AMVETS Post #17 and a member of the American Legion Post #83 for 28 years, but he was mostly proud of the fact that he had been a member of AAA (Auto Club) for 61 years.

Tom is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen S. "Kathy" (Melville) Schultz whom he married on February 14, 1970; his family, Gregory (Tami) Schultz of Castalia, Rhonda (Joseph) Findley of Auburndale, FL, Daniel Schultz of Dayton and Timothy (Michelle) Schultz of Sandusky; eight grandchildren Heather, Cheryl, and Christine Findley; Paul, Sara, Tyler, Connor and Elliot Schultz; a brother Jon (Itsuko) Schultz of Sandusky;  nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, from 4-8 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Prayers will be recited Thursday morning, May 30, 2019, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Jeff Walker officiating.  Following the services, it was Tom's wishes to be cremated.  Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 83 Color Guard.
