Ruth Ellen (Ruggles) Scates

 Ruth Ellen (Ruggles) Scates, 81, of Sandusky, formerly of Elyria, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, August 4, 2019 surrounded by family in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
   Born on October 10, 1937, in Sandusky, OH the daughter of George Almon and Naomi R. (Ehman) Ruggles.  She was a 1956 graduate of Sandusky High School and for over 20 years lived in Elyria, Ohio.  In her earlier days,  she worked as a surgical assistant to Dr. Gillette at Providence Hospital, and later went on to work at the Brookpark Ford Plant for many years.  After this she focused on taking care of her family and exploring her many hobbies, including extensive genealogical research which lead to her proud membership and position within the Daughters of the American Revolution.
   She is survived by 2 sons, Rick S. (Carol) Reiman of Sandusky and Jimmy (Pam) Scates of Grafton; a daughter, Diane "DeeDee" (Thomas) Ried of Castalia; 6 grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeremy, Jimmy, Christina, Tommy and Megan; 4 great-grandchildren, Jayce, Sebastian, James, Arlan (and one on the way); and a brother, George Ruggles of Sandusky.
   Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, George F. Scates (July 1, 2012); a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Fay; a sister, Dolores Gearhart; and a brother, Ron Ruggles.
   Visitation will be held on Thursday morning, August 8, 2019, from 10 am until time of the funeral services at 12 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Rev. Mel Sayler of Stein Hospice officiating.  Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, in Huron.
