DECATUR -- Ruth Jean (Simon) Pelz, 95, of Decatur, formerly of Sandusky, Ohio passed away Monday, October 15 in Lincolnshire Place, Decatur.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 250 W. Decatur St., Decatur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky, Ohio. Fr. Monty Hoyles will be officiating.

Ruth was born April 23, 1923 in Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of Fred and Eleanor (McLaughlin) Simon. She married Robert J. Pelz on June 14, 1941. He preceded her in death. She enjoyed traveling, reading, working puzzles, and playing cards. She was a member of Holy Family Church in Decatur.
Surviving are her children: son Dale (Beth) Pelz of Suwannee, GA; daughter Nancy Salefski of Decatur, IL; son William (Sarah) Pelz of Castalia, Ohio; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Pelz of Sandusky, OH; sister Betty Goodwin of Sandusky, OH, 7 grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Robert, son Kenneth Pelz, daughter-in-law Anne Pelz, son-in-law Larry Salefski, and sister Dorothy Kraus.
