Raymond G. Ward, M.D., 94, of Sandusky, passed away early Friday evening, January 19, 2018, at the Grand Strand Medical Center, in Myrtle Beach, SC, after a brief illness.
He was born April 1, 1923, in Mount Vernon, NY, to Thomas P. and Julia (Johnson) Ward.  During World War II, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy while stationed in Bethesda, MD.  He received his bachelor's degree from Ohio University, and later graduated from the New York University Medical School. He attended Ohio State University and studied urology, which he specialized in.  After OSU, he completed his residency at the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, OH.  He moved to Sandusky in 1957. He practiced as a urologist in the local area for many years, and had medical privileges at Providence Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. He retired in the early 1980s.
Ray was a voracious reader and enjoyed gardening, he especially loved and was devoted to his tree farm for nearly 35 years where he planted and grew over 1000 trees.
Over the years, he was a member of a variety of medical groups, societies and associations.  He was a life member of the AMVETS Post #17 and a member of the American Legion Post #83.
Ray is survived by his children, Craig (Leann) Ward of Sandusky, Joyce (John) Corbin of Custar, Kevin Ward of Marathon, FL, and Jonathan Ward of Pompano Beach, FL; his long-time very special friend and traveling companion, Nancy Blake; four grandchildren, Craig Ward, Jr., Lisa (Eric) Lombardy, Dominic (Patricia) Corbin and Stephanie (Josh) Mills; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Gorby, Hunter Corbin and Thomas Mills; and many nieces and nephews.
Ray married Lois C. (Baker) Ward on January 26, 1946, and she preceded him in death on August 30, 1966. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marjorie Mason; and a brother, Thomas Ward.
It was his wish to be cremated.  A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Back To The Wild, P.O. Box 423, 4504 Bardshar Road, Castalia, OH 44824 or to one's favorite charity.
