Mark Frederick Pankow

Mark F. "Panks" Pankow, 59, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly early Monday afternoon, January 7, 2019, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.

   Born on September 25, 1959, in Sandusky, OH the son of Melvin "Bubby" and Carol (Burrows) Pankow.  He was a 1978 graduate of Sandusky High School.  Mark had worked for nearly 40 years at MetalTek International (formerly Sandusky Foundry and Machine Co.) as a very skilled and experienced machinist. 

   Mark will be remembered by his family as being a “jack of all trades” and one that loved to work with his hands, no matter the project. He was a true naturalist. From working in the yard to walking on nature trails and fishing, Mark absolutely loved being outside.  In his youth, he enjoyed playing sports and took exercise very seriously throughout his adulthood. He was longtime member of the YMCA and could be frequently seen running the streets of Sandusky to maintain his health and to help him unwind.  Mark had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he and his wife, Deborah, were married on July 16, 1988. Above all, Mark held his family with utmost importance and will ultimately be remembered for his selflessness. He made a tremendous effort to providing and preserving the well-being of his family and friends. His favorite times were spent with these friends and family members during cookouts, holiday gatherings, and to watch movies. 

   Mark is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deborah B. "Debbie" (Burns) Pankow; two sons, James F. (Jeddahlyn) Pankow and John D. Pankow; a sister, Carolyn Pankow; a brother, Mel (Michel Le) Pankow; and a niece, Morgan. 

   He was preceded in death by his parents.

   Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019, from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, January 12, 2019, at 11 am at the funeral home.  Rev. Bill Schroeder officiating.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
