George E. Haws, 73, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, June 19, 2019, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a battle with cancer.
Born on September 14, 1945, in Comfort, WV the son of Walter Allen and Maudie Elizabeth (Green) Haws. George had worked for ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) for 33 years, retiring on June 30, 2011. He will be remembered by his family for how he was obsessed with the weather and conditions, being that he worked the roads for years..
He loved spending time with the family and the grandchildren, playing cards (such as poker), working on scratch off tickets, and rooting for his favorite professional football team, the San Francisco 49ers. George also enjoyed watching the American Pickers and the History Channel, as well as, he was an enthusiastic collector of baseball cards.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dianna J. (Chappell) Haws; two sons, David (Melissa) Owens of Sandusky and Dan (Michele) Owens of Grafton; four grandchildren, Danielle J. (Matt) Daugherty, Justin Owens, Tyler (Elora) Owens and Jarret Owens; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Emilia; two sisters, Mary and Chloe; and a niece and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in infancy, Walter Haws; his stepmother, Laurie Haws; and a stepbrother, James Rice.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, and Monday morning, June 24, 2019, from 10 am until time of the funeral services at 11 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Rev. Dr. Eric L. Bodenstab officiating. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery, Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to the family.
