Franklin J. "Frankie' Schmenk, 42, of Sandusky, passed away late Thursday morning, May 2, 2019, at Firleands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
Born on December 1, 1976, in Sandusky, the son of Denis Martin and Judith Ann (Meyer) Schmenk. Frankie was a 1995 graduate of St. Mary's Central Catholic High School, where he had excelled in both wrestling and football. In 1999, he graduated from the University of Toledo. After graduating, Frankie had worked as a sales rep. for Southern Title of Ohio for awhile and later went on to work at H. E. C. Dough, in Huron, for nearly 10 years.
At a young age, Frankie was taught drums by his older brother, Sam. He went on to become an extraordinary drummer and with his brother and a family friend, David Holscher, formed the band "Hugh Jass." Throughout the years, Frankie had played with several other bands in the local area.
He is survived by his parents; a son, Ethan Schmenk of Norwalk; his brother, M. Samuel (Christine) Schmenk of Sandusky; his girlfriend, Maggin Case; and her daughter, Shiann; and numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Frankie was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamina N. "Ben" Schmenk (2016); his maternal grandparents, Grover and Charlotte (Kamann) Meyers; and his paternal grandparents, Neil and Freda (Meyer) Schmenk.
It was Frankie's wishes to be cremated. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning, May 11, 2019, from 9 am until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Matt Frisbee officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Ethan Schmenk Education Fund, payable to Judy Schmenk, 1319 Fifth Street, Sandusky, OH 44870.
Arrangements are entrusted to the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
