Elverda Jacobs Obituary

Elverda M. "Bert" (Gillingham) Jacobs, 84, of Sandusky, who loved to travel, went on her last adventure early Tuesday morning, February 20, 2018, while in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
She was born in Sandusky on August 14, 1933 to Glenn and Margaret (Askie) Gillingham.  Bert graduated from Sandusky High School in 1952 and attended Airline School in Kansas City,MO.  She worked in NYC for TWA Airlines for a short time but missed her family and friends.  She then moved home where she was employed in the offices at New Departure-Hyatt in 1952.  She married Bill Jacobs on July 6, 1957.  After the birth of her first son, she became a stay-at-home Mom until her three sons were all in school.  She was employed at Perkins Schools and various part-time jobs, retiring from the offices of Stein Hospice.
She loved going on cruises and vacations with her sisters, Gail and Norma and her niece, Sandi.  She and Bill also managed at least one vacation every year and when her sons were younger always took at least one vacation a year with the family.
After retirement, Bill and Bert moved to Florida for 15 years, but Sandusky was always home to Bert and they moved back in 2012.
She shared many long lunches with her longtime friends, Nancy, Mitzi and Sherley, and enjoyed playing cards and an occasional afternoon at the casino.
Bert is survived by her husband, Bill, whom she was married to for over 60 years; son, Bill (Tamra) Jacobs and grandson, Jake of Madisonville, LA; son, Bob Jacobs of Dublin, OH; brother-in-law, Jim Jacobs and wife Joanne, of Amherst, NH and their children, Jay, Jennifer, Kira, and Jud; nieces, Sandi Norona of Brentwood, CA, Debra Gruelich of Piqua, OH; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brad  (December 5, 1988); her parents, Glenn and Margaret Gillingham; sisters, Gail Slygh and Norma Morgan; brothers, Bill, Ralph and Bob Gillingham.
Per Bert's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services.  Private family service will be held at a later date.  Bert always felt flowers were for the living and requested any donations be made to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1893, Memphis, TN  38101-9950.
Be kind and tell your children you love them.
Arrangements are entrusted to David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave, Sandusky.
